And when it was nighttime, we curled up, stayed in the caves, and listened to the other sounds

the ones that cannot be heard in the daylight.

Sometimes, a glow would disrupt those sounds
a glow that would begin and end without a direction or source.

Afterward, we would try to sleep some would say they dreamed and went somewhere, but we didn’t believe them.

Then, when it was daytime again,
we would gather and intermix and intertwine and get tired,
because the sun was too bright, and it showed everything.

We didn’t want to see everything so we had to constantly stay with our eyes half-closed.

Eyes half-closed,

Spiraled, tunnels and funnels and labyrinths
for unnamable currents to enter and to stir.

                                                                  Now, looking back,
I would say I was fully in love at the time
in a strange beauty that would never reveal herself to the others.

Text by Teodora Nitsolova, London 2025
