Teodora Nitsolova (b. Bulgaria) lives and works in London, UK. Her practice arises from a need to make sense of living in apocalyptic times - marked by displacement, atomic existence, and the absence of cohesive communities. She explores how internal structures, apparatuses, might contain transformation, rupture, and return. Drawing on philosophy and literature, she creates visual and poetic languages that carry fragile, ineffable messages resisting rational articulation. Teodora builds her mystical ecosystems site-responsively through un-stretched canvas, murals, wooden panels, textile sculptures, and hand-forged metal constructions or talismans.
Each surface is constructed, layered, veiled, or revealed, forming sites for haunting, thinking, and world making through the act of painting. Recent awards include the William Coldstream Memorial Prize (Director’s Choice), UCL Art Museum (2025); the Liquitex Prize for outstanding work in painting (2025); and the Sarabande Foundation Emerging Artist Award (2025). She completed her MFA in Painting (Distinction) at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London (2023–2025), and previously earned a BA (Hons) Painting / Stage Design at New Bulgarian University, Sofia (2012–2016). Residencies include Hydra Residency, ASFA, Greece (2025) and Slade & Liquitex Mural Project, London (2024). Recent group exhibitions include Madeline Moments, Union Pacific Gallery London, What What We Do Does, Arch 45, Chamber Street (Space & Purpose), London, UK (2025); Moving Principle, Arusha Gallery, London, UK (2025); |
